The range of punishment for computer crime is huge. It covers the span of requiring the payment of a small fine, to prison sentences of as long as 10 years and fines of as much as $100,000.FN37
Wisconsin has laws providing that computers of juveniles or adults convicted of computer crime may be confiscated. The length of confiscation is limited by statute.FN38
Numerous states have statutes making it unlawful to alter, damage or modify software; inherent in all of these statutes are two requirements: (1) that the act is done without the authorization of the injured party and (2) the actor does some deliberate act of commission.FN39
