Introductory remarks to veniremen

Before selection of the jury begins, the trial judge usually provides the panel of veniremen with a brief, general description of the type of case to be tried. In some jurisdictions, the judge also introduces each defendant and his or her attorney to the panel. In other jurisdictions, the attorneys are allowed to introduce themselves.

Where there are multiple defendants, if counsel is allowed to introduce himself or herself, counsel should make clear that he or she is representing only the his or her client and not the other defendants.
