Initial conference with defendant; information checklist
During the initial conference with the defendant, counsel will want to ascertain the following facts:
- Client's name
- Home address
- Business address
- Home and business telephone numbers
- Occupation
- Criminal record, if any
- Name and address and phone number for spouse, significant other, parent, etc.
- Name of alleged victim of substantive crime
- Time and place of alleged crime
- Whether client has given a statement to the police
- Names, addresses, and phone numbers of client's next of kin
- Time and place of next court appearance
- Whether bail has been set
- Names of alleged codefendants
- Names, addresses and telephone numbers of any witnesses client may be aware of
- Social security number
