Facilitating crime

In a number of states the act of disclosing passwords or other means of illegal access to computers is a crime. South Dakota, for example, includes the following as an "unlawful use of a computer":

A person is guilty of unlawful use of a computer if he or she knowingly uses or discloses to another or attempts to use or disclose to another the numbers, codes, passwords or other means of access to a computer, computer program or computer system without the consent of the owner.FN98

Similarly, Wisconsin describes as an offense against computer data and programs the act of disclosing "restricted access codes or other restricted access information to unauthorized persons."FN99
