The statement in the certificate of the beginning and ending date of the operational period of the certificate also allows a determination of whether or not a time-dated digital signature was created during the operational period of the certificate. A search of the certificate revocation list (CRL) also enables the verifier to determine the certificate has been revoked or suspended earlier than the end of the stated operational period of the certificate.
